For many in America, the thought of Donald Trump going to prison is deeply satisfying. It starts with the premise that there is an unseen force (with in the judiciary) working to help the rural poor in America and that some how Americans are going to get a fair shake.
Nope.
Trump has been a godsend to the decrepit oligarchy. This is due to his ability to divide and redirect negative energy away from the system (and then) back on to the politician.
Ex-presidents can’t go to prison
This is simply for national security reasons. First, ex-presidents have been given access to SAP information in the past. Information regarding the highest levels of American national security. In one example among many, Trump understands the nuclear launch procedures regarding America’s nuclear triad as well as the myriad numbers of SAP procedures connected to it.
Second, by law, all ex-presidents have a contingent of Secret Service that are assigned to them for life to protect their family and the ex-president. Secret Service personnel (can not) go to prison. In fact, if anyone makes an aggressive move toward Trump (regardless of their position in the judiciary) they will be shot on the spot by Secret Service.
Thirdly, due to national security, Donald Trump can not offer testimony.
And finally, the reductio ad absurdum, Trump will be pardoned in the end — no matter what.
The idea that Donald Trump will be dressed in an orange jumpsuit, intermingling with inmates like ‘Uncle John’, being locked down, and extorted behind bars
Is a story for small children

Well, that's pretty clear cut. So why is everyone believing the fantasy? Wishful thinking, I guess.
Agreed.
